Untitled Event

"Join Abbie Bandstra, ASPEN's Program and Prevention Coordinator and certified educator, for an hour session on "Health Care Cares About Domestic Violence Day" regarding the intersection of Domestic Violence (or IPV,, Intimate Partner Violence) and health care facilities and professionals.    Medical studies link the long-term effects of domestic violence and abuse with a myriad of health problems, such as smoking, diabetes, obesity, eating disorders, and substance abuse. While doctors and nurses routinely ask about high blood pressure and high cholesterol, few assess for domestic violence and its impact on health.  This seminar hopes to leave participants with more information surrounding domestic violence, how to recognize it in the health care setting, and tools and skills to address and resource towards survivor health and safety outcomes. One of ASPEN's advocates will also be on-hand to answer any questions and to build direct connection for referral process in our community."
