My Voice, My Choice is a new program at The Montana Racial Equity Project, which advocates for reproductive equity and justice for historically marginalized, disenfranchised, and oppressed people in Montana. Many people face barriers to reproductive health and the right to choose to have children. These barriers may include federal or state laws or other regulations. For individuals, it may also include a lack of health insurance, safety, lack of access, and other social determinants of health.

Reproductive justice focuses attention on the various things that may affect one’s ability to make choices about having children and caring for them. Some significant concerns include the following:

LGBTQ stigma, bias, and system inequalities
Economics
Social status
Race and racism
Environment
Disabilities
Community-centered concerns

A key problem addressed by reproductive justice is the isolation of abortion from other social issues. These issues have a disproportionate impact on communities of color and other marginalized groups.

The intent of My Voice, My Choice is to bring together organizations and individuals around the various issues that empower people to make their own choices about having and caring for children.

My Voice, My Choice creates a space that is accepting and non-judgemental. This program will provide accurate information and resources for people directly affected by barriers to abortion access to inform and implement necessary cultural and political change. The monthly meetings will consist of policy and advocacy updates, guest speakers, and a toolkit with materials to support pro-choice engagement.
